Dear Funke,
How are you, my dear childhood friend? I hope you and your family are doing well. I am writing to tell you about the exciting Independence Day celebration in our school last week. It was a very colourful and memorable event, and I thought you would enjoy hearing all about it.
The day began early, as all students gathered in the school field wearing our school uniforms neatly. The school principal gave a short speech, reminding us of the importance of Independence Day and the sacrifices of our forefathers. It was inspiring to reflect on our nation’s journey to freedom.
The celebration included a parade by the students, where we marched in formation, singing the national anthem and displaying patriotic banners. Each class had prepared a creative banner with messages of unity, peace, and progress. I was part of my class parade team, and it felt proud to represent my classmates.
After the parade, there were cultural performances from different groups. Some students performed traditional dances from their regions, while others recited poems about patriotism and the nation’s history. I particularly enjoyed a drama performance that depicted the struggles and triumphs of our heroes who fought for independence. The audience applauded loudly after each performance, and I could see the pride on everyone’s faces.
There was also a speech competition organized for students who wanted to share their views on national development. A few of my friends participated, and their speeches were very impressive, highlighting the importance of education, unity, and hard work in building a strong nation.
The celebration concluded with a reception, where the principal distributed certificates of participation to students who had excelled in cultural and sporting activities. We also enjoyed light refreshments together, chatting and sharing our experiences of the day.
Funke, the Independence Day celebration was not only entertaining but also very educational. It reminded us of our duties as citizens and encouraged us to strive for excellence in all that we do. I felt proud to be part of such a meaningful event.
Please write back and tell me how your school celebrated the day. I would love to hear all about it.
Yours affectionately,
Bola
