REPORT ON THE FOOTBALL COMPETITION HELD IN OUR ZONE

Introduction
This report is submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide details on the football competition held in Zone B of Lagos State on Saturday, 5th August 2023. The event aimed to promote youth sports, encourage talent development, and foster unity among students from different schools in the zone.
Participants and Attendance
A total of 12 schools participated, with over 300 students competing. The schools included Bright Future College, Greenfield High School, and Unity Grammar School, among others. Coaches, referees, and officials from the Ministry were present to oversee the competition.
Events and Matches
The competition consisted of group matches leading to semi-finals and finals. The highlights included:
- Skillful performances from students showcasing dribbling, passing, and teamwork.
- Exciting matches that drew large crowds of students, teachers, and parents.
- Fair play was emphasized by referees and officials throughout the event.
Winners and Awards
- Champion: Bright Future College
- Runner-Up: Greenfield High School
- Most Valuable Player: Chukwuemeka Nwosu (Bright Future College)
Certificates, trophies, and medals were awarded to winners, runners-up, and outstanding performers.
Challenges Encountered
- Poor Pitch Condition: Some areas of the football field were uneven and had patches of bare soil, making play difficult.
- Limited Medical Facilities: There was only one first aid station, which caused delays in attending to minor injuries.
- Traffic Congestion: Arrival of participants was slightly delayed due to traffic along the main access roads.
Recommendations
- Pitch Renovation: Repair and maintain football fields to ensure safe and smooth play.
- Medical Support: Provide more first aid personnel and equipment during competitions.
- Better Transportation Arrangements: Ensure proper planning for participant arrivals to avoid delays.
- Regular Competitions: Organize more zonal and inter-school tournaments to develop youth sports talent.
Conclusion
The football competition was largely successful and achieved its objectives of promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and talent discovery among youths. With improved facilities and planning, future competitions can be even more impactful and safer for participants.
