ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE HOLDS COLOURFUL GRADUATION CEREMONY

Introduction

The graduation ceremony of St. Michael’s College, Aba, took place on Saturday, 8th July 2023, at the school’s assembly hall. The event, which marked the end of the academic journey for the outgoing SS3 students, was attended by parents, teachers, dignitaries, and well-wishers.

The Event Proper

The ceremony began at exactly 10:00 a.m. with the national anthem, followed by an opening prayer led by the school chaplain. The Principal, Mrs. Grace Udo, in her welcome address, congratulated the graduating students for their hard work and resilience. She also thanked parents for their unwavering support and teachers for their dedication.

The highlight of the ceremony was the valedictory speech delivered by the Senior Prefect, who expressed gratitude to the school for moulding the students academically, morally, and socially. He urged his colleagues to remain focused as they step into higher institutions.

Awards and Performances

Prizes were presented to outstanding students in academics, sports, and leadership. Notably, the best graduating student, Chioma Eze, was awarded a scholarship by the Old Students’ Association for her excellent performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The school choir entertained guests with melodious songs, while the cultural troupe thrilled the audience with traditional dances. Parents and teachers also participated in light-hearted games, adding colour and fun to the event.

Reactions

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Education, who was represented by the Director of Schools, praised St. Michael’s College for maintaining high academic standards. He encouraged the graduating students to be worthy ambassadors of the school and the state at large.

Parents interviewed after the event expressed joy and pride at the achievements of their children. They also commended the school management for organizing a memorable ceremony.
