Dear Sir,
COMPLAINT ABOUT FREQUENT ELECTRICITY OUTAGES IN ILORIN
I write through your widely read newspaper to bring to the attention of the general public and the relevant authorities the unbearable hardship caused by the incessant electricity outages in my area, G.R.A., Ilorin.
For over six months, residents of Ilorin have been subjected to irregular power supply that has destabilized both domestic life and business activities. At times, power is supplied for only two to three hours in a whole day, and on some days, there is no supply at all. This situation has made life extremely difficult for everyone.
The consequences of this problem are far-reaching. Students preparing for examinations are unable to study effectively at night due to lack of light. Small-scale business owners, such as welders, barbers, tailors, and cold room operators, have experienced severe losses because they rely heavily on electricity for their daily operations. In fact, many of them have been forced to shut down their businesses because they cannot afford to fuel generators every day.
Furthermore, the frequent outages have affected the health sector. Patients in small clinics and private hospitals who depend on power for life-saving equipment are at risk. Foodstuffs and perishable goods stored in refrigerators and cold rooms spoil quickly, leading to wastage and additional financial burden on families.
To make matters worse, the electricity distribution company in charge of our area has continued to send exorbitant bills, even when power supply is almost non-existent. This is nothing short of extortion, and residents are greatly dissatisfied with this unfair practice.
I am therefore appealing through this medium to the concerned authorities—particularly the Kwara State Government, the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC)—to urgently address this problem. The electricity infrastructure in Ilorin needs a thorough overhaul, and there should be proper monitoring to ensure stable supply. If this is not done, the hardship will only worsen and people’s livelihoods will continue to be destroyed.
It is my hope that this complaint, published in your esteemed newspaper, will reach the appropriate quarters and bring about a quick solution to the electricity crisis in Ilorin.
Thank you for your usual support in giving voice to the plight of the people.
Yours faithfully,
