A Journey I Made by Bus

Last December, I made a remarkable journey by bus from Lagos to Abuja. It was a trip that combined excitement, adventure, and a few moments of discomfort, but it remains one of my most memorable experiences.

I woke up very early that morning, packed my small travelling bag, and headed to the park with my parents. The park was already busy with passengers dragging their luggage, conductors shouting the names of destinations, and hawkers selling snacks and drinks. After buying my ticket, I found my seat near the window of a large, air-conditioned bus.

At exactly 7:00 a.m., the driver started the engine, and the bus slowly moved out of the park. As we drove along, I looked out of the window and watched the tall buildings of Lagos fade into the distance. Soon, the city noise gave way to open roads, green fields, and scattered villages. The sight of the countryside filled me with calmness.

Inside the bus, the passengers were a mixture of personalities. Some were chatting excitedly, others were reading, while a few had already dozed off. A man seated behind me played soft music on his phone, and it added a pleasant rhythm to the journey. The bus hostess offered us bottled water and snacks, which made the trip more comfortable.

However, not everything was smooth. Along the expressway, we ran into heavy traffic caused by road construction. Vehicles lined up for several kilometres, and the hot sun made the wait almost unbearable. Some passengers sighed in frustration, while others got down to stretch their legs. After nearly an hour, the road cleared, and our bus continued at a steady pace.

As the journey progressed, we passed through several towns. I noticed markets bustling with people, traders displaying goods by the roadside, and children waving at vehicles as they passed. Each scene painted a picture of daily life in rural Nigeria. I was especially fascinated by the rocky hills around Lokoja, which stood majestically against the horizon.

By late afternoon, the bus finally approached Abuja. The wide, clean roads and organised layout of the city were a sharp contrast to the noisy park where the journey had begun. I felt a wave of relief and joy as we entered the capital city. Though I was tired from sitting for many hours, I was grateful for the safe and successful trip.

In conclusion, the journey from Lagos to Abuja by bus was long but memorable. It gave me the opportunity to admire the beauty of my country, observe different people, and experience the challenges of road travel. It is a journey I will always remember.
