A REPORT ON THE JUST CONCLUDED INTER-HOUSE SPORTS COMPETITION

Introduction

I, Samuel Adeyemi, the Games Prefect of Bright Future Secondary School, present this report on the recently concluded inter-house sports competition held in the school on Saturday, 15th October 2022. The report highlights the preparations, major events, achievements, and recommendations for future editions.

Preparation for the Event

Preparations began a month before the competition. Houses were given time to organize training sessions in track and field events. The school compound, especially the sports field, was cleaned and marked by volunteers and teachers. Invitations were sent to parents, old students, and community leaders. Medical staff from the local health center were also invited to provide first aid services.

Highlights of the Competition

The event started at 10:00 a.m. with a welcome address from the Principal, followed by a march past by the four houses: Red House, Blue House, Green House, and Yellow House. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as students, staff, and parents cheered their favorite houses.

Track and field events such as 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and relay races were keenly contested. Blue House won the 100 meters senior boys’ race, while Red House took the lead in the relay. The novelty race for teachers and parents added fun to the day.

The climax of the competition was the football final between Green House and Yellow House. Green House emerged victorious with a 2–1 win, drawing thunderous applause from spectators.

Achievements Recorded

  1. The competition fostered unity and cooperation among students.
  2. Talented athletes were discovered, some of whom may represent the school at inter-school competitions.
  3. Parents, teachers, and students bonded well, making the day socially enriching.
  4. The event improved students’ enthusiasm for sports and physical fitness.

Challenges Encountered

  • Lack of adequate sporting equipment such as javelins and hurdles.
  • Insufficient refreshment for both athletes and spectators.
  • A few cases of minor injuries due to the rough nature of some contests.

Recommendations

  1. The school should purchase more sporting equipment for future events.
  2. More medical staff should be stationed at the venue to handle emergencies.
  3. Adequate refreshment should be provided to encourage athletes and spectators.
  4. Training sessions should start earlier to allow students to prepare better.

Conclusion

The inter-house sports competition was a resounding success despite a few challenges. It provided students with an opportunity to showcase their talents, promoted unity, and contributed to the physical development of participants.
