Dear Victor,
How are you doing, my dear brother? It has been a while since I last heard from you, and I hope your studies at the university are going smoothly. I am writing to share something exciting with you—a new skill I recently learnt, which I believe will be very useful in my future.
During the last holiday, our school partnered with a vocational centre to train students in various practical skills. I decided to join the computer programming class, and honestly, it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. At first, I thought programming would be extremely difficult, but with the help of the instructor and lots of practice, I gradually began to understand it.
I started by learning basic HTML and CSS, which are used to design web pages. Later, I was introduced to simple coding in Python, a programming language that can be used for many purposes such as creating applications and solving mathematical problems. The first time I successfully created a small website of my own, I felt very proud and motivated to keep learning.
The importance of this skill cannot be overemphasized. Firstly, computer programming is one of the most demanded skills in today’s world. People use technology in every aspect of life, and those who can create or manage software are highly valued. Learning this skill now gives me a head start in preparing for future opportunities.
Secondly, programming has helped me to improve my way of thinking. It teaches problem-solving and patience because codes must be written carefully. Each time I encounter an error, I have to analyze the problem step by step until I find a solution. This discipline has even helped me in my school subjects, especially Mathematics and Physics.
Another benefit is that programming can be a source of income. Many young people are already earning money by building websites, creating apps, or freelancing online. With time, I also hope to use this skill to support myself and even contribute to our family.
Most importantly, the skill has given me confidence. I no longer feel left behind when my friends talk about technology. Instead, I can now contribute meaningfully to such conversations. It makes me feel prepared for the future.
Victor, I really wish you were around to see some of the projects I worked on. When you come home for the next holiday, I will show you my small website, and maybe I can even teach you a few things.
Please take care of yourself, and do not forget to reply soon. Give my warm greetings to your roommates.
Yours lovingly,
Emeka
