Dear Kemi,

How are you, my dear friend? I hope this letter finds you well and that your schoolwork is going smoothly. I am writing to share with you my experience at the recent school debate competition we had. It was such an exciting and unforgettable day, and I am sure you will enjoy hearing all about it.

The competition took place last Friday in our school hall, which was decorated beautifully for the occasion. There were banners with motivational quotes, and the stage was set with podiums and microphones for the contestants. Teachers, students, and invited guests filled the hall, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere.

I participated as a member of the affirmative team for the topic, “The Use of Technology Enhances Learning in Schools.” At first, I was nervous because I had never participated in a formal debate before. However, our team had prepared thoroughly, practicing our arguments and anticipating counterpoints from the opposition.

The debate began with the opening statements. Each team presented its arguments clearly, citing examples and statistics to support their points. I delivered my speech confidently, emphasizing how technology such as educational apps, computers, and online resources can improve students’ understanding and efficiency in learning. I also addressed counterarguments, showing that technology, when used wisely, is more of a benefit than a distraction.

The audience was very attentive, and I could hear some nodding and murmurs of approval. The judges asked challenging questions during the rebuttal session, but I managed to answer them calmly and confidently. By the end of the competition, our team had presented strong points, and the judges seemed impressed with our performance.

After the deliberation, the results were announced. I was thrilled when our team won first place! The applause from the audience made me feel proud and validated all our hard work. Winning was not just about the trophy; it also boosted my confidence and taught me the value of preparation, teamwork, and public speaking skills.

Kemi, participating in the debate has motivated me to improve my speaking and analytical skills further. I encourage you to join the next competition in your school, as it will be an exciting opportunity to learn and showcase your talent.

Please write back and tell me about any competitions or events in your school. I am eager to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,
Chidera
