Dear Kemi,

How are you, my dear sister? I hope you are doing well and that school is going smoothly. Mother told me you have been performing fairly in your recent tests, and I felt it was important to write this letter to encourage you and advise you on why you must take hard work in school very seriously.

Kemi, education is one of the greatest gifts anyone can have. It is through education that people become doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, and leaders in society. However, success in education does not come by chance; it is the result of dedication, discipline, and hard work. If you want to achieve your dreams, you must be ready to put in your best at all times.

One reason you should work hard is that your performance in school today will determine your future opportunities. Employers and institutions are always interested in students who excel academically. A brilliant result can open doors of scholarship and admission into higher institutions, while laziness may deny you such chances.

Another reason is that hard work builds good habits that stay with you for life. When you discipline yourself to read daily, complete assignments, and revise your notes, you develop a sense of responsibility that will help you in other areas of life. On the other hand, laziness can lead to procrastination and lack of seriousness, which are dangerous traits.

Also, working hard in school will make you confident and respected among your peers. Imagine how proud you will feel when you can answer questions in class, or when your name is called among the top students during prize-giving day. Your teachers will admire you, and our parents will be very proud too.

I must also remind you that there are no shortcuts to success. Some students try to rely on exam malpractice, but such acts only bring shame and failure. It is better to sweat now and enjoy later than to play now and regret later. Always remember the popular saying, “No pain, no gain.”

To achieve all this, you need to read your books regularly, avoid distractions such as excessive television or phone use, and keep good company. Choose friends who are serious about their studies because they will motivate you to do the same. Pray to God for wisdom as well, because He rewards diligence and sincerity.

Kemi, I strongly believe you have great potential, and if you work hard, you will surely make our family proud. Please take this advice seriously and begin to improve from now on. I look forward to hearing good news about your next results.

With lots of love,
Your caring brother,
Tayo
