Speech on the Dangers of Internet Fraud (“Yahooo Yahooo”) Among Youths

Question: As a senior prefect, write a speech on the dangers of internet fraud (“Yahooo Yahooo”) among youths.

The Principal, teachers, fellow students, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

I am honoured to stand before you today to speak on a matter that has eaten deep into the fabric of our society — the menace of internet fraud, popularly called “Yahooo Yahooo.”

In recent years, many young people have been lured into this criminal activity with the false belief that it is a quick path to wealth. Unfortunately, the consequences of internet fraud are far-reaching and devastating.

Firstly, internet fraud destroys the reputation of our nation. Countries across the world now see Nigeria and many African countries as hubs for cybercrime. This makes it difficult for hardworking youths to be trusted in genuine online businesses. In fact, many young people face rejection when applying for jobs, scholarships, or international opportunities simply because of the bad image created by internet fraudsters.

Secondly, internet fraud destroys the future of the youth involved. Those who engage in it often drop out of school, lose focus on education, and live extravagant lifestyles that cannot be sustained. Many end up being arrested, disgraced, and even jailed. Their dreams and ambitions are cut short because of greed.

Thirdly, it has a negative effect on the economy. Internet fraud discourages foreign investors and reduces international partnerships. It robs our country of opportunities that could have created jobs for honest young people.

Furthermore, Yahooo Yahooo promotes other vices such as ritual killings, drug abuse, and armed robbery. Some youths, in their desperation, resort to fetish practices, thereby endangering their lives.

Dear friends, true success cannot come through fraud. Real success comes through hard work, education, and integrity. It may take time, but it lasts. Our role as students is to focus on our studies, develop our skills, and embrace honesty. As the saying goes, “A good name is better than riches.”

In conclusion, I appeal to every one of us: let us shun internet fraud and all forms of dishonesty. Let us remember that our actions today will shape our tomorrow. Together, we can build a society where youths are known for creativity and innovation, not for fraud.

Thank you and God bless.
