On an ordinary school day, my classroom may look like any other, but during an English Language lesson, it comes alive with activity, energy, and excitement. The familiar four walls seem to take on a new life as my classmates and I immerse ourselves in the world of grammar, comprehension, and literature.
The classroom itself is spacious but often crowded. Wooden desks and benches are arranged in neat rows, though some bear scratches and carvings from restless students. Large windows on either side let in sunlight, and the green curtains sway gently with the breeze. At the front stands the teacher’s table, beside a chalkboard already filled with neat handwriting. On days when we study literature, colourful charts and quotations are pasted on the walls, giving the room a lively academic look.
As soon as the English teacher enters, the entire atmosphere changes. We rise to greet him in unison, and once seated, all eyes focus on him. His voice fills the room, clear and firm, as he introduces the topic of the day. Sometimes it is grammar, sometimes essay writing, and other times poetry or drama. Whatever the topic, his enthusiasm makes us eager to learn.
During the lesson, the classroom buzzes with interaction. Hands shoot up as students volunteer answers, while others whisper softly as they struggle to understand. When the teacher cracks a joke or quotes a line from Shakespeare, the class bursts into laughter. On serious occasions, you could hear the scratching of pens against notebooks as everyone writes hurriedly to keep pace with the explanation.
One of the most interesting parts of the lesson is when students read aloud. The voices differ—some loud, some timid, some faltering over difficult words. Whenever a mistake is made, the teacher patiently corrects it, and the rest of us repeat after him in chorus. The energy in those moments binds us together in the shared effort of learning.
The classroom is not always free of distraction, of course. Some students drift into daydreams, staring out of the window, while a few mischievous ones pass notes under the desk. Yet, the teacher’s sharp eyes and quick humour soon restore order, and the lesson continues.
As the period draws to an end, the blackboard is filled with notes, our notebooks packed with examples, and our minds richer with new knowledge. When the bell finally rings, a mixture of relief and satisfaction spreads through the class. We leave the room chatting excitedly about the day’s lesson, already anticipating the next.
For me, my classroom during an English Language lesson is more than just a place of study. It is a space where knowledge meets curiosity, where discipline meets laughter, and where learning becomes an experience to be cherished.
