Dear Cynthia,
How are you doing, my dear cousin? It has been such a long while since we last saw each other, and I really miss your cheerful company. I hope you and your family are doing well. I am writing this letter to tell you all about my last birthday celebration, which turned out to be one of the happiest days of my life.
As you know, my birthday was on the 15th of July, and this year, my parents decided to organize a small but colourful party for me. The day started with prayers from Mum and Dad, who blessed me and wished me success in all my endeavours. After that, I wore a beautiful outfit that Mum had specially bought for the occasion.
The party was held in our compound, and it was beautifully decorated with balloons, ribbons, and colourful lights. Tables and chairs were arranged neatly under canopies, and music played softly in the background as guests began to arrive. By noon, many of my friends from school and our neighbours had gathered. I was so delighted when I saw them coming with gifts and birthday cards.
The highlight of the day was the cutting of the cake. My birthday cake was a two-layer chocolate cake with white icing and my name boldly written on it. Everyone gathered around while my parents stood by my side. After singing the birthday song, I made a wish and blew out the candles before cutting the cake. The applause and cheers made me feel so special.
There was plenty of food and drinks for everyone. We had jollof rice, fried rice, chicken, salad, and meat pie. The children especially enjoyed the ice cream and snacks. After eating, we played several games, including musical chairs and dancing competition. The laughter and excitement that filled the air were simply unforgettable.
One part that touched me deeply was the moment my father presented me with a surprise gift—a new bicycle! I had always wanted one, and the joy I felt that day cannot be described in words. I rode it around the compound while everyone clapped and cheered.
As the day came to an end, I felt grateful to God and to my family for making the occasion memorable. I realized that birthdays are not just about food and gifts, but about love, togetherness, and creating beautiful memories with people who matter most.
Cynthia, I sincerely wish you were around to celebrate with me, but I promise that when your own birthday comes, I will surely be there. Please write back soon and tell me how you celebrated your last birthday too.
Give my warm greetings to Uncle and Aunty.
Yours lovingly,
Amanda
